We're Home!!!

I really need to go to bed, so I won't take the time to fill in details yet, but I did want to take a few minutes to post a couple more pictures of our newest darling addition.

This is the whole family on the sofa in our mother-baby hospital room right before Number Five and I got to check out earlier today, about 41 hours after delivery.

Here is close-up of our sweet baby at around 48 hours old.

Off to take some pain meds and get some sleep...more pictures and details to come soon.

Good night!

Welcome Number Five

This is Dave coming to you as guest blogger. We welcomed Number Five to the fold this weekend. I'll leave the details to Kristin to fill in, but suffice it to say that mom and baby are doing well, Numbers One through Four obviously love her, and she is cute as a button.

A few pictures:

Note to Family...

All who reside in this abode who have already been born, please refrain from walking on the floors with dirty feet, using the restroom, showering, sleeping in your clean bedding, wearing clothes, using the kitchen, or getting anything out of any of the drawers, closets, shelves, etc. until after the baby is born and I am ready to clean up after you again.

All who have not been born...know that you are more than welcome (and encouraged) to make your grand entrance anytime after my date with Number Three in the morning.

A Traveling Exhibit

So...I am not a real pro at taking it easy.

Today I drove the kids into the city to meet Dave for lunch. His firm has its own cafe, and the kids had a great time seeing Dad's office and even eating pudding and ice cream!!!

It took us way longer than I expected to get there. Between heavier than usual traffic for the time we were heading in, to being unable to find a spot very quickly in the parking garage I used, to the walk from the parking garage to his office...it took us nearly 2 hours.

Dave usually takes a bus from our neighborhood (about 8 minutes to the station) and an express train (just over a half hour) with a little walk left (10-15 minutes) from the train station to his office. So yes, we are definitely in the suburbs, but it doesn't usually take so long to travel in.

I wore Number Four in the ergo...and can I say I felt like this walking through the city with the kids?!?

I don't know how many of you saw that kind of silly Brenden Frasier movie Blast from the Past that came out some years ago. Brenden Frasier plays a character whose parents had built an elaborate bomb shelter, and who went down there with their young son when they thought they were being bombed. Some thirty years later (or something like that) their son gets to see what life is like on the outside.

I don't remember a whole lot about the movie, but I do remember one scene when Brenden Frasier's character meets up with an African-American mail carrier and says something like, "Holy cow, it's a real live negro!!!"

He doesn't necessarily mean to be disrespectful, he is just really stunned seeing something so foreign to his experience.

That is how I felt today...like people were absolutely flabbergasted to see my huge belly, baby on the back, with three other little kids...

"Holy cow, it's a real live family!!! With real children who have siblings!!!!"

Sometimes it cracks me up to hear these strangers comment to each other, within my earshot. Um, hello? I can hear you.

Mostly, the comments were either positive or incredulous, but not downright negative. I do try really hard to keep my kids dressed in cute clothes and to do their hair...though nothing fancy. I also bought some cuter clothes for this pregnancy, and was out in a really cute skirt with my hair and makeup done. Not to say I look fabulous with my ginormous girth, but at least I don't look frumpy. That honestly affects the type of judgements people make.

I tell my kids sometimes how lucky we are that we get to be missionaries of sorts for the family. That when we go out in public as a family, act respectful, and have fun, that we can promote the family as important and valuable to others who may not view families the way we do.

All in all it was a great trip in. The lunch was great, and we played at one of the huge city parks afterward while waiting for Dave to finish working. The kids had a blast.

By the end I found that my seriously huge belly was making the ergo really not so comfortable anymore, and that my feet were twice their normal size, at which time it occurred to me that lots of people I know wouldn't attempt such an outing. But I'm glad we did.

Now off to drink some more water and put up my feet before getting in trouble at the doctor's office in the morning.

Still pregnant, and feeling far less than stellar...

But trying hard to make the end of summer still fun for the kids.

I will post more later about Saturday (with pictures), but suffice it to say that Number Two had the most grand sixth birthday adventure a little girl could hope for to American Girl Place. I cleaned up when we got home (fortuneately the damage was minimal from the two younger ones and a baby-sitter, who had stayed for several hours). I even got the lawn mowed too!

Monday Number One had a playdate, and I took the rest to a pet store so Number Two could redeem her "new pet" gift. She picked a male beta fish, and I tell you, he is living in style! I won't even post how much his new digs cost, but Number Two is thrilled, and so am I...I avoided cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, and birds for one of the most low maintenance pets out there. Happy day. All is well. And I even gave Dave a haircut Monday night after the kids were in bed.

Yesterday after swim lessons I took all the kids, plus a friend, to Chuck E. Cheese. In our family when the kids miss a friend birthday party because it is on a Sunday (with a friend they are very close to) we have a special birthday playdate with the friend. Number Two got to take a different friend to Pump it Up and out to lunch last May for the same reason. I think the kids had a great time, but it was a looong afternoon for me.

This morning I have been trying to catch up on emails and phone calls that need to be made, along with folding a few loads of clean laundry, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, etc. before swim lessons and staying after to swim with the kids.

I feel so torn about the end of this pregnancy. On the one hand, I am miserable and exhausted and wish she would just be born, but on the other hand, I have so much left that I wanted to do before she arrived that I wish I had another 6 weeks.

Anyway...just a little bit of an update for you. Back to work!

PS A special public thanks to the IL's who sent some cute little girl clothes for our new baby, and a new Twix stash! Suffice it to say that I have already broken into it.
